SANDRA PASTRANA
Mezzosoprano

 

Born in Granada, in Spain, she first graduated at an early age in Violin studies from her city's Conservatory and later in Vocal studies from the Conservatori Superior de Musica at Barcelona's Liceu.
She has won awards in many i n t e r n a t i o n a l s i n g i n g competitions, including the "Manuel Ausensi" competition in Barcelona, the"Ottavio Ziino" competition in Rome , "Pedro Lavirgen" competition," Viñas " competition,the "Opera de Sabadell" competition... She made her stage debut at an e a r l y a g e a s Se r p i n a i n Pergolesi's Serva Padrona at the Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona.

 

Sandra Pastrana has already had the opportunity to perform under the most eminent conductors in many of the world's most prestigious opera houses: Zubin Mehta "Carmen" at the Teatro San Carlo in Napoli ; Muti "Don Pasquale" at the Musikverein in Vienna, at the Ravenna Festival and at the Teatro di Piacenza; Gelmetti "La Traviata" at the Teatro dei Rinnovati in Siena and "Ballo in maschera" in Trieste; Oren "La sonnambula" at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa; Rizzi "La Rondine" at the Fenice in Venice; Zedda "Adelaide di Borgogna" in La Coruña; Campanella "La Fille du régiment" in Tokyo and "Don Pasquale" at the Teatro delle Muse in Ancona; Pérez-Sierra "Il Signor Bruschino"at the Teatro Verdi in Sassari; Deuk-Gi Kim "Rigoletto” in Korea; Fogliani "Tebaldo e Isolina " at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad; Benini "La Sonnambula" in Cagliari; Josep Pons "Orphée Aux Enfers" at the ’Auditorio Manuel de Falla' in Granada; Bisanti "La Bohème" at the Teatro Verdi in Padova; Montanari "La Cecchina" at the Teatro Donizetti in Bergamo; Eric Hull "La Clemenza di Tito" at the Teatro Verdi in Sassari ; Ryuichiro Sonoda "La Gazza Ladra" at the Rossini Festival in Wildbad and "La Traviata" at the Shinjuku Bunka in Tokyo;Tomasello "Carmen" at the Arena in Györ

 

She also gives frequent concert performances, covering a wide repertoire of orchestral and chamber music. She has sung Mendelssohn's Psalm no. 42 at the Liceu in Barcelona, Schubert' s Salve Regina at the Palau de la Musica Catalana in Barcelona, the Petite Messe Solennelle at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid, the Bachianas Brasileiras by Villa-Lobos in Germany and Lugano with the Orchestra della Radio Svizzera Italiana ; Pergolesi's Stabat Mater and Vivaldi's Gloria in Rome, the Petite Messe Solennelle under Gustav Kuhn in Lucca and at the Tiroler Festspiele in Erl where she has also performed in the Bach Mass in B minor under the same conductor. She has also sung in Beethoven's 9th Symphony at the Teatro Politeama in Lecce under Marcello Panni, Boccherini's Stabat Mater in Florence with the “Orchestra della Toscana”

 

Sandra Pastrana is deeply attached to her home country, Spain, where she is a frequent guest during major chamber music and concert seasons and at all the most prestigious opera houses, including the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona and the Teatro Real in Madrid. She has also sung in the zarzuelas "La del manojo de Rosas"(Ascensión), "La Lola se va a los puertos" (Lola), "Katiuska la mujer rusa"(Katiuska) and "Pepita Jimenez"(Pepita).

 

Sandra Pastrana is a highly esteemed performer of twentieth century works: she has sung in "l'Enlèvement d’Europe" and "L’Abandon d’Ariane" by Milhaud at the Teatro de La Maestranza in Seville, "L’enfant et les sortilèges" at the Liceu in Barcelona, "Il cappello di paglia di Firenze” by Nino Rota at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale in Florence, "La Messa Solenne" by Stelvio Cipriani at the Auditorium della Conciliazione in Rome and "La Bottega dei Sogni” by Angelo Inglese at the Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari. She sang in Stefano Lentini's soundtrack for "The Grandmaster” by Wong Kar Wai, the film which inaugurated the International Film Festival in Berlin and has also performed in "Requiem" by Jose Garcia Roman, "Help, Help the Globolinks” by Gian Carlo Menotti in Palermo, "Peter Grimes" by Britten and “Jenufa“ by Janáček at the Teatro Comunale in Bologna under conductor Juraj Valčuha.

 

She has performed recently in "La Canterina" at the Haydn Festival in Brühl, "El Gato con Botas" by Montsalvatge at the Festival Tres Cantos in Madrid, in several orchestra recitals at the Palau de la Musica in Valencia, "Carmen" on tour in Bangkok with conductor Zubin Mehta and the Teatro San Carlo of Naples, “Mozart's Requiem” at the Auditorio Nazionale in Madrid, "La Pietra del Paragone" at the Teatro Lirico in Cagliari, "Aida" at the Teatro Real in Madrid with Luisotti ,the Dvorak "Te Deum" at the Lucca Classica Music Festival," El Retablo de Maese Pedro “ by Falla at the Teatro Politeama in Palermo, “Verdi's Requiem” at the Auditorio Nazionale in Madrid.

 

Future plans include: “Mozart's Requiem" at the Auditorio Nacional in Madrid ,Gala Opera at the Auditorio Ciudad De León ,“El Gato con Botas " by Montsalvatge at the Auditorio ADDA in Alicante, " Manon Lescaut " by Puccini at the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genova,"Se Vende" by J.Rueda-D.del Puerto-J.Arias in Madrid, "Das Lied von der Erde" by Mahler in Lucca.

 

She has recorded La Petite Messe Solennelle by Rossini, Tebaldo and Isolina by Morlacchi, the Abduction from the Seraglio by Mozart, Stefano Lentini's Stabat Mater, Manon by Massenet, Arie Accademiche by Luigi Boccherini, La Sonnambula by Bellini, Elisabetta Regina d'Inghilterra by Rossini and La Rondine by Puccini.

 

In 2016, Sandra Pastrana received in Roma the Ottavio Ziino Lifetime Achievement Award. Received the Blas Infante 2018 for the Art Award in Beas de Granada. Received the Barreta 2019 of Music Award in Granada.
